The supporting roles included Dave Foley as Herb, Megan Mullally as Stu's sister, Chris Kattan as Stu's "body", and Whoopi Goldberg as Death. Stu (Brendan Fraser) is a cortoonist, creator of the character "Monkeybone", who is involved in an unfortunate and untimely accident which puts him into a coma. Obviously being based on a graphic novel and clearly a surreal fantasy nothing is supposed to be realistic looking. I laughed until I cried (and then rewatched certain scenes on video).

Henry Selick's "Monkeybone" is a whirlwind of tones, design styles, and plot points that, although sometimes coming off like an after-market "Beetlejuice," actually makes for an almost-enjoyable slice of weird. Let's face it...Monkeybone is definitely not the greatest movie ever made, but it has it's points. There are lots of other characters that feel pointless such as Miss Kitty (Rose McGowan). Black Wolf's Pack (Smiley) | The effects themselves were quite impressive back in the day, as I recall, obviously these days things don't quite look as slick. Looking for some great streaming picks? Some of the humor is on the lowbrow side, but that's to be expected, especially considering how the cartoonist character gave Monkeybone his name.
