In my opinion he phoned this one in and I can’t really see anyone ever making the comment that Scalps is their favorite Fred Olen Ray movie. You would think that a movie about a guy possessed by an evil Native American spirit who goes around killing people would be pretty action packed but to my surprise that just wasn’t the case at all. Scalp conditions can be itchy, irritating to deal with, and may even cause hair loss or a skin rash.
It's also pretty cheap-looking, not just with the obvious things like tacky Confederate costumes and poor cinematography (some night scenes are near impossible to make out), but Mattei wasn't even able to find some nice Spanish locations to shoot on like the countless spaghetti western made 20 or so years earlier!
